The fundamental rule of screenwriting, as I have been taught, is to “show and not tell”. Essentially it means that a screenwriter should use actions to get a point across instead of simply describing things via dialog. All rules are meant to be broken at some point in time! Gemini Division, a micro series breaks this rule. Getting a story across in a very short timeframe (each episode is only 6 minutes) is a contraint and the writers let the lead character do alot of talking (telling) to a video phone. I feel I need to try writing a micro series as I have not been able to finish any of my 3 started screenplays. Shorter stories, even if just blog posts, might mean that I can actually finish a story and as I love to break rules, I hope to break a few more screenwriting rules along the way.
